The Soul-Winner’s
Achievement
“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing
psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and
let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the
prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he
have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to
another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like
passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it
rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he
prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him
know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save
a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” (James 5:13-20)
Today’s Morsel: Leading someone to Christ and having their life changed is one of the most rewarded feelings one can
experience. I have seen many folks that I have led to Christ, whose lives
have been changed for the better. There is nothing like seeing someone
who was depressed, abused, living with low self-esteem, and no hope, then
seeing them with a face filled with joy and excitement after Jesus fills them
with His Spirit and places His name upon them. James said to let the
person know that he which converts the sinner from his error of his way shall
save a soul from death and hide a multitude of sins. You see, a life that
is backslidden doesn’t just have one sin, they usually have a multitude of sins, and as long as they
are in that sinful state, they are dead. Jesus
states, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he
walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will
return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it
swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other
spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the
last state of that man is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:24-26)
And so James states to let the person duly consider, for his encouragement, that he who is the instrument of
converting a sinner shall save a soul from eternal death, and a body from ruin,
and shall hide a multitude of sins; for in being the means of his conversion we
bring him back to God, who, in his infinite mercy, hides or blots out the
numerous sins which he had committed during the time of his backsliding. Solomon states, “The
fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
(Proverbs 11:30) On some have compassion and make a difference in their
lives.
Sing: Would you be free from your passion
and pride, there’s power in the blood, power in the blood; Come for a cleansing
to Calvary's tide, there’s wonderful power in the blood.
There is power, power, wonder-working power in the blood, of
the Lamb. There is power, power, wonder-working power in the blood of the
Lamb.
Thought For Today: The greatest
achievement you can reach is leading someone to Christ.
