Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 21 October 2020

But One

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.(1 Corinthians 8:6-7)

Today’s Morsel:  If someone were to ask you how many true Gods are there?  How many would you say there are?  I think that one of the most confusing things for some folks is when they read the scriptures and they see that Jesus is God, but because they read another passage and Jesus makes comments to the Father, or the Spirit, they get confused and think that there are three different persons.  First, Jesus is not the author of confusion, but of peace.  Paul helps us to understand this One true God when he wrote, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)  Remember, Jesus said God is a Spirit (John 4:24).  Therefore, the Spirit took on flesh and blood like us. Scripture says, “Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” (Hebrews 2:17-18)  He became like us, flesh and blood.   Therefore, Jesus is called the Son of God.  And because God is a Spirit, when the flesh of Jesus died on the cross, the Spirit, the Comforter, is now in operation in the life of God’s people.  God is not three persons, He is One.  And Paul asks, how come there is not in every man this knowledge?  What knowledge?  That Jesus is God!  What is your understanding?  I pray you have a full understanding.

Sing:  Jesus be the Lord of all; Jesus be the Lord of all; Jesus be the Lord of all, the kingdoms of my heart.

Thought For Today:  If God is three persons, we have a strange God!
