In The Garden
“And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put
the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow
every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also
in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a
river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and
became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which
compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that
land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second
river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And
the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east
of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. And the LORD God took the man,
and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” (Genesis 2:8-15)
Today’s Morsel: When I was a kid, my
parents always planted a pretty large garden because of the size of our
family. Back in those days, we mostly lived off what we raised. If
we went to the grocery store, it was for maybe flour or sugar. Most
everything else was raised on the farm. One of the things I liked about
our large garden was all the vegetables and melons that we grew. I would
sometimes just pretend to be a rabbit and bite the heads out of the cabbage, or
just pull up a carrot and eat it raw. No, we never considered the poison
that was on them nor the dirt. Maybe that is why we were much healthier back
then. Maybe if kids played in the dirt, or we ate more dirt, we would not
have so many health issues. We came from the dirt you know. And that
is where we will return. Think about the size of the garden that God
planted and put Adam and Eve in to care for. When was the last time you
planted a garden and ate from it? Maybe I should ask, when is the last
time you met with Jesus in His Garden? Anywhere out in nature and you are
in God’s garden. Have you met with Him to see what He is growing? He is
waiting to meet with you today.
Sing: I come to the garden alone, while the
dew is still on the roses, and the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of
God discloses. And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me
I am His own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever
known.
Thought For Today: When is the
last time you met with Jesus in His garden?
