2014 September 30 - Morning Manna

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. (Psalms 51:1-14)

Today's Morsel: What is it about prayer that gets our attention?  Why do people call and ask us for prayer?  Why did God even institute prayer?   What I find about prayer, is that it doesn't change others when I pray, it changes me. There is something about my relationship with God that is increased when I pray.   No matter what I am praying for, I feel better within myself after I have prayed then before I prayed.  David's prayer is Psalm 51 is a prayer of repentance.  It's a hand caught in the cookie jar prayer.  You see when you are caught doing wrong, your prayers are more remorseful because you are seeking forgiveness.  In a sense, repentance and seeking forgiveness for our sins is a hand caught in the cookie jar prayer. When you realize who God is, you realize that you haven't been getting away with anything at all.  Because of His omniscience power, He has seen what you were doing all along.  Ask David.  And once God calls you on it, you want His forgiveness.  When we look at the Lord's prayer, it is designed to bring an inward change in us.  So keep doing it.

Sing: Change my heart oh Lord, attend unto my prayer, from the ends of the earth will I cry unto to Thee, and when my heart is overwhelm, lead me to the Rick that is higher that I, so much higher than I.

Thought for Today: Prayer changes us, so keep doing it. (Parker)
