And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. (1 Chronicles 4:10)
Today's Morsel: Most people are aware of the book written, "The Prayer of Jabez." Sometimes, in the book of Chronicles, God just dropped little tidbits of information and inspiration in between all those families and names and if we aren't careful we can miss some very important details for our lives. Jabez's prayer is a wonderful prayer in dark surroundings. He asked the Lord to bless him and enlarge his coast, that the hand of God would be with him, that God would keep him from evil, and that he be not grieved. And God granted it to him. There isn't anything special about this prayer if you know what we call the Lord's Prayer. Jesus said to ask and it shall be given. Jabez's prayer isn't a selfish prayer. It's just a request for expansion, guidance, and protection. When the disciples of Jesus asked Him to teach them to pray, Jesus simple taught them to say, "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen" (Matthew 6:9-13). A few days ago, I said that some folks make the things of God too hard. Some feel that if they aren't weeping, mourning, yelling, screaming, and speaking in tongues during their prayers, that God isn't hearing them. Isaiah said that the Lord's ear isn't deaf that He can't hear (Isaiah 59:1). For me, when I pray, I just like talking to God in the same tone of voice that I talk to other people with. But whatever you do, don't stop praying. Prayer is your life line to God.
Sing: Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a friend that's well known; You have no other such a friend or brother, tell it to Jesus alone.
