I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. (Ecclesiastes 1:16-18)
Today’s Morsel: Solomon speaks a lot about wisdom. Solomon sought wisdom. But what he found was that worldly wisdom causes grief. And more knowledge of the world causes sorrow. The more we know of this world, the more we realize its demise and hardships and there isn’t a lot that we can do about it. James tells us, “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” (James 3:13-18). When we search and find the wisdom of God, we find life and obtain favor of Him.
Sing: How great is our God, how great is His name. He’s the greatest one, forever the same. He rolled back the water, of the mighty Red Sea, and He said I want to lead you, so put your trust in me.
