Keep Learning
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
Today’s Morsel: From the time of creation, man has been called on to learn and to know. Learning is essential to our growth and salvation. Abraham Lincoln states The day you stop learning is the day you stop leading. Learning is even essential to our peace of mind. Paul told the church at Philippi: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9). He told Timothy: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15) We must study and learn what God requires of us if we plan to be saved. In professional baseball, one of the keys to a batter being able to hit a ball thrown by a professional pitcher is they study him. They learn his strategy. And once they learn it, they practice hitting those types of pitches. Satan is going to throw many things at you. So learn his strategy and start practicing how to defeat him. “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:17-18) Knowledge is powerful.
Sing: Deeper! Deeper! In the love of Jesus, daily let me go. Higher, higher, in the school of wisdom, more of grace to know. Deeper, yet I pray, and higher every day. And wiser, blessed Lord, in Thy precious holy word.
