And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:6-13)
Today's Morsel: When I was a kid, most evenings we would watch Chad Huntley and David Brinkley on the evening news. They were a good newscast team. They seemed to tell the news the way it was. But today, newscasters have become so politically correct, that you don't know if what they are reporting is truth or error. When once asked what what he would classify as a successful man, David Brinkley said, "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him." I see this as one of the reasons for Peter's success. The stone which was rejected by the Jews, Jesus, was thrown back at him, and he took and laid the foundation for the church. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). The apostle Paul would later write, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 3:11). If the world throws a brick at you because you are a Christian and love Jesus, lay a firm foundation with it. Because someone coming after you is going to need to build their life on that very truth.
Sing: We are standing on holy ground, and I know that there are angels all around. Let us praise, Jesus now, for we are standing in His presence on holy ground.
Thought for Today: "A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him." David Brinkley, American Newscaster
