And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:1-3)
Today's Morsel: When I lived in Asia, they had a god for everything. Dragon boat races were to the god of the sea. They had a painted finger nail dance to the gods. The day and month you were born gods. There was a god of the harvest. You name it, they had a god for it. When God gave Moses the law, He told him, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Israel was not to allowed anything to come between them and Jehovah. They were not to worship any other gods. Because the land God was taking them to was infested with so many gods, God knew that it would be easy for them to be led astray and follow them to their destruction if they were not forewarned. We see that King Solomon, the wisest man, allowed the wives he was married to worship their false gods and this angered God, and it led Solomon astray. Even today, we see many people worshiping and following false gods and the gods of the lands. If we will start our day with prayer and reading the word of God, we can identify false gods and stay away from them.
Sing: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.
Thought for Today: There is only one God and His name is Jesus.
