And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? (Mark 4:35-41)
Today's Morsel: I have been trying to figure out why, when some people are facing adversity, they run from the church, while others who are facing the same adversities remain in the church. Shouldn't we as Christians, those who say that we know Jesus, know how to stand in adversity? I really love today's passages of scripture. They are some of my favorites. If you will notice, the apostles are afraid that they are going to perish in the storm, while Jesus isn't fazed. He's laying in the back of the ship asleep on a pillow. To me this is an indicator that we should not be disturbed in the storms of our life, because He gives His beloved rest. After seeing all the things that Jesus had done, the apostles were still afraid. Another thing they failed to realize was that Jesus was in the same boat with them and He wasn't fazed about what was happening. When they awakened Him, He asked them why they were so fearful, how it was that they did not have any faith. Friend, you aren't in this boat of life by yourself. Jesus told us that He would not leave us nor forsake us, so why fear? He's on-board with us. Let me encourage you, don't leave the church because of fear or anything else, Jesus is with you and will bring peace to you even in the midst of your storm.
Sing: I know the Peace Speaker, I know Him by name. I know the Peace Speaker, He controls the winds and rain; when He says, 'Peace be still,' they have to obey. I'm glad I know the Peace Speaker, yes, I know Him by name.
Thought for Today: Except you abide in the ship you cannot be saved (Apostle Paul)
