Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 June 10

Our Father

“And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.” (Luke 11:1-4)

Today’s Morsel: When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He told them to begin by acknowledging God as their father and that His name was holy. When we acknowledge God as our heavenly father, it causes us to reverence Him for who He is in our lives.  The Father should represent the one in our life that we ought to be able to look to for spiritual guidance, direction, and wisdom. He must prove Himself faithful, available, trustworthy, honest, enthusiastic, and righteous. He must be the keeper of Bible standards of living, purity, and charity. God must be treated and respected for who He is, not for what He can give us and do for us. To address Him as Father, and to live as He is such, is to show others that He is sovereign, and that he has preeminence in our life.

Sing: Heavenly Father, I appreciate You. Heavenly Father, I appreciate You. I love you, adore You, I bow down before You. Heavenly Father, I appreciate You.

Thought For Today: A Father is more than a sugar daddy.
