Is It Time For You To Flee?
“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Timothy 2:22)
Today’s Morsel: Lust has been defined as an intense, often uncontrolled, desire, particularly as a sexual desire, that is directed towards something that is not in accordance with God’s will or something that is harmful. It involves a craving for pleasure, gratification, or possession, often at the expense of others or in disregard of ethical or spiritual principles. It often involves ignoring God’s will, disrespecting others, or acting selfishly in pursuit of personal desires. In writing to the church at Rome, Paul writes and informs, “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.” (Romans 7:7) When we covet after forbidden things, it can drive us to lust after them. God’s word ought to open our understanding and control us so that we do not do harm to ourselves or others because of our cravings. We must not allow lust to take root in our minds. As Isaiah said, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” (Isaiah 26:3-4) God will help us, but we must want Him to. The apostle John cautions us, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2:15-17) We must not allow our flesh, eyes, and selfish-pride, cause us to err after pleasure, profit, or personal gain. After such a great leadership and victory, Gideon asked the people to give him an earring of their prey. And he made an ephod, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house (see Judges 8:22-28) We must also flee youthful lusts: And follow after righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Sing: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this world, will go strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.
Thought For Today: “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.” (James 1:13-16)
