Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 August 2

We Are Not Saved By Things

“Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.” (Proverbs 10:2)

Today’s Morsel: Do you remember that old saying, “Whoso has the most in the end wins?”  Well really that is not true. It may be in board games, but in the game of life it’s the farthest thing from the truth. But people continue to slave themselves for the dollar in hopes to have enough to care for themselves in old age. But James says that tomorrow isn’t promised. He said that life is like a vapor, then poof it is gone. Moses said, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalms 90:10-12) We aren’t saved by things. We are saved by God’s grace, Paul said in Ephesians 2:8. We can accumulate all the things and all the money in the world, but none of it can save you. Even Jesus asked, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26) “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” (1 Timothy 6:7). Salvation is the greatest treasure that you can have. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:38-42) Things won’t save you, but Jesus Christ will.  Find Him, and you have found everything.

Sing: I’m going to a city there will be no more night. I’m going to city where Jesus is the light. The trumpet’s gonna sound and I’ll be called away, I’m going to a city someday.
