Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2017 October 10

“Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars”
(Proverbs 9:1)

Today’s Morsel:  One of the things that I liked about living in Europe was visiting those old castles.  They were so marvelously built.  Many of them have such huge pillars that they are resting on.  I think about what the pillars that Samson was next to when he asked the young man to lead him to the two pillars that were holding the building up must have been like (Judges 16:25-29).  Solomon said that wisdom hath hewn out her seven pillars.  I was trying to think what these seven pillars might be.  Then I realized that Jesus is God and God is wisdom (1 Corinthians 3:10).  And knowing the character of God, I thought that these seven pillars would then be: Virtue, Knowledge, Temperance, Patience, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness, and Charity.   Peter said, “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ…for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:8, 10-11).  They will be pillars in your life.

Sing: My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

Thought For Today: What foundation are you building on?
