2013 October 29 - Morning Manna

"But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry"
(Luke 15:22-24).

Today's Morsel: When I was a kid, it was always great at Christmas time or other holidays to see our siblings come home. I'm sure there were times that our parents didn't know if they were dead or alive, because in those days few if any had phones and most kids never wrote home. And so for a mother or father to see their sons or daughters it was a great delight. The prodigal's father too probably wondered about his son who had left home. Communications home by his son probably weren't forthcoming. And so imagine how glad the father was to look down the road and see his son coming home. But because of his son's state and condition and repentance, the father knew that his son was dead in his trespasses and sin and needed restoration. So the father began to restore him to newness of life. Friend, no matter how low you get in this world, Jesus, your Heavenly Father, will always welcome you back home. All you have to do is make the decision to come home.
Sing: I've a home prepared where the saints abide, just over in the glory land. And I long to be, by my Savior's side, just over in the glory land.
Chorus: Just over in the glory land, I'll join the happy angel band, just over in the glory land; just over, in the glory land, there with the mighty host I'll stand, just over in the glory land.
