2013 January 24 - Morning Manna

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
(Proverbs 28:1)

Today's Morsel:  Talking with a friend a few days ago, we got to joking about the movie the Wizard of Oz. I  asked him had he ever looked at the characters from a spiritual stand point. And he said no, so I shared my viewpoint with him.  Dorothy is afraid, but she's seeking to find her way home.  She's like so many in the world today. They are trying to get home, but don't seem to know how and so they are looking for someone to show them.  The Scarecrow doesn't have a brain, he can't think for himself.  He is like those who follow the crowd because they can't decide and think for themselves. Then there is the Tin Man.   He doesn't have a heart. He doesn't know how to love nor does he feel loved because he's doesn't have a heart. He represents the bullies and the rejected. He's left alone until Dorothy comes to help him.   And then there is the Cowardly Lion.  Notice, he is suppose to be bold, but he's a coward. He has no fortitude, no fight about him, and no power.  He tried to scare Dorothy and the others, but after she smacks him on the nose, his true identity appears.  He's afraid because he has no bravery or self-worth.  The Cowardly Lion is like those who say that they have the power of the Holy Ghost, but they are afraid to witness.  They are afraid to stand up for right.  They boast in church, but are afraid when they are on the job or at school.  They hide their light and will not stand nor speak before others.  Solomon said that the righteous are as bold as a lion. Every beast in the jungle is afraid of the lion because they know that he is king. The way to test your righteousness is if you are willing to take a stand for who you are and what you believe in.  Once they locate the wizard, they are all given their desire; a heart, and brain, and courage. Isn't that what Jesus said, I will give you a new heart and a new mind?  Didn't He command us to be of good courage?  And the wizard tells Dorothy that the way home is to click her heels and say there's no place like home. In other words, just believe and follow your belief and you'll get there.  You can come home anytime you desire. the church is still there.

Sing:  If I could find my way, back to that old cross, I could find my way back home.
