Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 10 October 2019

Where Did They Go?

And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.(Ecclesiastes 8:10-13)

Today’s Morsel:  One of the reasons I believe that there is so much evil in the world today is due to a lack of deterrence.  When I was a kid, teachers could spank you for misbehavior or wrongdoing in school.  Those who were incarcerated were made to dig ditches, pick-up trash, and keep the roadways clean.  Those in authority were respected because of their positions of leadership.  People went to church where they learned to reverence God.  And because there seems to be no consequence to wrongdoing today, Solomon states, “The heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”  But then he informs us, Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days be prolonged, it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days. “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Paul said (Hebrews 10:26-31)  There are going to be consequences to evil and wrong, and the quicker we figure that out the better we will be.

Sing:  I love Him. I love Him. Because He first loved me; He purchased my salvation on Calvary.

Thought For Today: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
