Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2018 April 11

“Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge. Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:3-12).

Today’s Morsel:  When I was a kid, I liked to play hide-and-seek.  It was lots of fun.  Sometimes, if we had a very good hiding place, we could see the person that was looking for us and when we had an opportunity, we could run to the home-base and be safe.  Job said that he was looking for God, but he couldn’t find him. He said even though he couldn’t find God, God knew where he was and the way that he goes.  I think in some way, this is what the scripture points out to us, “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine” (Psalms 33:18-19); For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him...” (2 Chronicles 16:9).  Don’t ever think that you can hide from God.   He knows your every move.  We can also take great comfort that He knows exactly where we are and carefully watches over us.

Sing:  Why should I feel discouraged, and why should the shadow come, and why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home. When Jesus is my portion, a constant friend is he, His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches over me.
Chorus: I sing because I’m happy. I sing because I’m free.  His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches over me.

Thought For Today:  There’s an all-seeing eye watching you.

  1. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
