Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2018 April 19

“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all” (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

Today’s Morsel:  They say that the fruit that ripens the fastest, also rots the fastest.  Fruit which is seen outward on trees seems to rot faster than fruit which grows underground.  Therefore, I believe that the fruit of the Spirit must first be developed inside of us.  If we do not have any roots when the trials and tests come, we will rot away (see Luke 8).  Jesus told the religious leaders, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity” (Matthew 23:27-28).   Jesus said we must “either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit” (Matthew 12:33).  If your fruit is going to remain then it must first be developed within.

Sing: Will you decide now to follow Jesus?  Will you decide now to follow Jesus?  Will you decide now to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.

Thought For Today:  The fruit that ripens the fastest also rots the fastest.

  1. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
