Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2017 November 30

“Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion” (Isaiah 30:1-3).

Today’s Morsel:  It seems that many in the church have now turned to taking counsel from the world rather than the Lord.  It appears many of them are confused, faithless, and without hope.  Shouldn’t we who say that we are born-again take our counsel from the Lord?  Proverbs 8:14 says, “Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.”  Doesn’t God know what is best for us? Shouldn’t we be leaning upon Him for our directions, healings, and provisions?  So why are many taking it from the world?  The Lord said through the prophet Isaiah, “Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin.”  We must not forget what John told us: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:15-17).  If you go to the world for counsel, that is exactly what you will get, worldly counsel that will not last and counsel that will destroy your faith, hope, and charity.  The counsel of the Lord that will stand.

Sing: You can take this whole world, but give me Jesus. You can take this whole world, but give me Jesus. You can take this whole world, but give me Jesus, no turning back, no turning back?

Thought For Today:  Don’t take your counsel from the world… It’s a killer (Parker).
