“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:16-19).
Today’s Morsel: Luke chapter 4 is one of my favorite passages of scriptures. Everything that the people had been waiting for was now right at their fingertips and yet they rejected it. When Jesus read from Isaiah 61, the people were amazed at what He said. But Jesus left off one part of Isaiah, which most readers do not catch. And that was, “and the day of vengeance of our God” (Isaiah 61:2). The reason He did not speak that to them at that time was because His goal, Luke said, was to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). But the Apostle Paul was very adamant that this day will come when the Lord returns. He told the church at Thessalonica, “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day” (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10). So don’t try to take matters into your own hands. Always remember, that as a child of God vengeance is the Lord's and He will repay.
Sing: O’ my brother are you ready for the call? To crown your Savior, King and Lord of all? The kingdom of this world shall soon before Him fall, we shall see the King when He comes.
Thought For Today: Vengeance is mine saith the Lord.
But I say unto you, love your enemies.
