Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (Psalms 1:1-6)
Today's Morsel: What goes through your mind when you hear someone say that they are blessed. Do you ask yourself when they say that, am I blessed? Why do the Scriptures present such wording as being blessed and the blessing of the Lord was upon them/him. Well, God is in the blessing business and all of those who say that they are His should be blessed. The word "blessed" here in Psalms 1 means, happiness. When we walk according to the ways of God, we will be happy. What was it about Solomon's servants that Bathsheba would say, "Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom" (1 Kings 10:8)? It was because Solomon was walking according to the ways of the Lord. There is no true happiness in the life of the wicked. Job said that the man that God corrects is happy. "Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty" (Job 5:17). God corrects us by His word. So when our lives are in line with God's word and we know our God, happiness come forth. Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD. (Psalms 144:15). Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God (Psalms 146:5). If you aren't happy, who's your God and where do you put your hope? The joy of the Lord is your strength.
Sing: If you're happy and you know it, say amen! Say amen! If your happy and you know it, say Amen! Amen! When God's Spirit falls on you, makes you shout Hallelujah, if you're happy and you know it say amen!
