2010 May 6 - Morning Manna

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
(1 John 5:1-4)

Today's Morsel: "Winning is not everything, it is the only thing!" said Green Bay Packer coach, Vincent Limbardi. Where did he get this phrase ? If I were a betting man, I would say many of the quotes he used came from the Bible. Often times when we hear notable quotes, we may think that people just dreamed them up. But not so. Probably 99.9% of notable quotes are clichés taken from scriptures. Many of them are Proverbs spoken by King Solomon that people have put their own personal twist to. One reason people should read their Bibles is that as wisdom and faith come by hearing the Word of God. Just think, you could pen your own quotes. John said, "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." John was saying that when we apply our faith, we can overcome the world. As the apostle Paul said, sin shall not have dominion over you. Winning over the world is not everything, it is the only thing. Friendship with the world makes you the enemy of God. This is one victory that every child of God must achieve. You must believe that the things of God are more important to you than the things of the world. And with your faith, you must keep it as the number priority in your life. If you gain the whole world and lose your soul, what have you accomplished? Since you already know that you brought nothing into the world and you can carry nothing out, it shouldn't take much faith to overcome the world. You just have to remember that everything before your eyes is temporal and fading away fast. Are you planning to spend your life with Jesus when this life is over? Then winning is the only thing. Make yourself a plan and stick with it. Because, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

Sing: Victory in Jesus, my Savior forever. He sought me, and He brought me, with His redeeming blood. He loved me e'r I knew Him, and all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood.
