Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee

(1 Samuel 16:13-15).
Today's Morsel: If you are wondering what Saul's evil spirit was, it was the spirit of jealousy. Saul became jealous of David because he did not know how to handle spiritual leaders. God had given Saul some of the mightiest men for warfare you could ever want. But because he failed to obey the commandment of God and God removed His Spirit from him, he saw David as a threat against his leadership and kingdom. Instead of seeing David as an added greatness to his force, he saw him as a threat. And because others liked David, Saul began to see them as even more of a threat. Because of his jealousy against David, Saul lost his ability and effectiveness to lead. Jealousy is an evil spirit because you see others as being better than you. Jealousy leads to envy, hatred, bitterness, and distress. The spirit of micro-management is birthed out of the spirit of jealousy, as well as the spirit of fear. When you see someone as a threat to you, it creates fear in you. So let me encourage you today, don't allow the spirit of jealousy to rein in your life because while you may hurt others or see them as a threat, you yourself will become the biggest loser. Remember, in God's kingdom, we are all on the same team.
Sing: I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God. I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God.
