2011 May 6 - Morning Manna

Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him
(John 12:13-16).

Today's Morsel:  If you were to ask most Marines the place they least like serving, many would tell you Twenty-Nine Palms, California. Why?  Because it's nothing but desert, juniper and a few palm trees.  Not a whole lot to do but train.

The Prophet Zechariah had prophesied of Jesus, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass"(Zechariah 9:9).  John said that the people took branches from palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna, blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.  Even Jesus' disciples didn't comprehend this prophecy until after Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.  And then, they understood that the Old Testament prophesy was about Him.  Jesus had told them "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you"(John 14:26).  It took the Holy Ghost for them to understand this Old Testament prophecy.  The same is true today.  Without the Holy Ghost, a person cannot comprehend that Jesus was the God of the Old Testament.  This is why after His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples and said, "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:25-27). "And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins" (John 8:23-24).

If you want a true understanding of Jesus Christ, you have to read not only the New Testament, but also the Old Testament scriptures because it's all about Him.

Sing: Hosanna! Blessed be the Rock, blessed be the Rock of my salvation. Hosanna! Blessed be the Rock, and may the God of my salvation be exalted.
