Evil Speaking
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but
that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the
hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29)
Today’s
Morsel: They say that the two hardest things on a person’s heart are
running upstairs and running down people. Once we become born-again, we
should easily have one of these things out of our lives! We must learn to
control and select our words carefully. We must not bash people with our
tongue. We must learn to edify and build others up. James tells us, “Speak not
evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and
judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou
judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.” (James 4:11)
In his third chapter, James deals with the danger and damage of the tongue. He
informs us that a fountain does
not send forth sweet and
bitter water from the same place. With that information, we
must ask ourselves if Christ is in us because He is the fountain of living
water, then why are we using words that do not represent Him before and to
others? Since His words are sweet and not bitter, our words should be the
same.
Sing: Turn
your eyes upon Jesus; look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth
will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.
Thought For Today: “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men
shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” (Matthew 12:36)
