The Purpose for Instructions
“Then came the word of the LORD unto
Jeremiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell
the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive
instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 35:12-13)
Today’s
Morsel: With most of the things that we purchase, such
as appliances or things that require us to assemble them, there is usually a
set of instructions inside the box. The company wants us to know how the appliance works and how to use them. And
often we find in those instructions a section called safety or warnings.
If we fail to obey or heed them, we could cause harm to ourselves as well as to
others. Solomon states, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be
yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:9)
and Paul admonishes us, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy
3:16-17)
The Lord told the Prophet Jeremiah to go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
"Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words?" God wanted them to
know that they were not obeying His word and that there would be consequences.
Man can’t save us, nor deliver us, nor heal us, nor pull us out of sin.
Only God can do these things. But it requires obedience to His
instructions for us. The table or chair put together without following
the instructions in the box, 99% of the time does not look like the picture on
the box. The same holds true for the person who says that they are
born-again who does not obey the Bible. Their actions and conduct will
not look like what a true Christian is supposed to look like and be. The
purpose of instructions is to ensure things turn out correct. Are you
following the Instructions? The Bible. Bible means Basic
Instructions Before Leaving Earth. And a person's life will never turn
out right if it is not followed.
Sing: Aren’t you getting just a bit tired of
fooling around? You try to laugh your way through life, but you are not
gaining ground. Why not try the Lord today, just ask Him in your heart to
stay; and you’ll find Jesus love to be the greatest gift that you've ever
found.
Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t let me go.
Jesus got into my heart, He got into my soul. I use to be oh so sad, but
now I’m happy, free, and glad, because Jesus got ahold of my life and He won’t
let me go.
