“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:1)
Today’s Morsel: It’s always interesting when someone new comes into the church whose name is Charity, and I begin to quote 1 Corinthians 13 about what charity is and doesn’t do. Their faces seem to light up. I can remember the first time that I heard my name ‘Rufus’ mentioned from the Bible. Each Sunday that I would walk into the church, my pastor’s wife would say, “Greet Rufus chosen in the Lord…”. Were her words prophetic? I think so, now that I am an ordained minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul also tells us to follow after charity. Therefore, we must follow Jesus Christ because God is Love (1 John 4:8). And again, as Paul states, “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” (Ephesians 5:1-2). The word charity has a powerful meaning, follow it at all cost.
Sing: Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, love lifted me. Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, love … lifted… me.
Thought For Today: Who are you following.
