Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2018 October 1

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7)

Today’s Morsel:  We often hear of people having different types of phobias.  Some people are afraid of heights, while others are afraid of closed rooms, or of flying.  Whatever their phobia is, it can cause them to panic and think they will die. So, what is the answer to deal with their phobia?  John said that perfect love casteth out fear.  And God is love (1 John 4:8).  Fear or phobias torment.  Yet there is one fear that we must all have and that is not the fear of dying or of people and things, but the fear of God.   The respect and awe for Him.  Solomon says that this fear is the beginning of knowledge.  It’s really the first step to obtaining wisdom.  It’s the watchword for a true ethical education.  No one can ever become truly wise who does not begin with knowing God who is the fountain of all knowledge.  When one’s mind is influenced by this fear and love of God, he will learn more in a day than others who do not have it will learn in a month.

Sing: Deeper! Deeper! In the Love of Jesus daily let me go. Higher! Higher!  In the school of wisdom more of grace to know.

O’ deeper yet I pray, and higher every day, and wiser blessed Lord in Thy Precious Holy word.

Thought For Today:  The respect for God is the greatest education one can have (Parker).
