“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psalms 46)
Today’s Morsel: Ever so often, we need to stop and reflect on God’s words to us. When we read the Bible, it is God speaking to us and we need to stop and reflect on what He’s saying to us. Throughout the Psalms, we see the word, “Selah”. Selah means a suspension or pause in the music. Because many of the psalms are considered to be music, we need to pause and reflect on what we are singing. David begins this Psalm with strong encouragement by stating, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” But he calls for a pause in reflection after a few verses so that we can reflect on what was said. He wants us to stop and realize that God is always with us no matter what may come our way. If you want to see God in His fulness, then you must pause and reflect on His word. Remember, thought is important because it is thought that generally precedes action.
Sing: Just a closer walk with Thee, grant it Jesus, is my plea; daily walking close to Thee, let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Thought For Today: Thought is important because it is thought that generally precedes action.
