Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2017 February 7

“The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)

Today’s Morsel: I’m sure that you’ve heard the saying, “Love at first sight.”  This saying means that on first seeing or meeting someone, you fell in love.  Seeing Rachel, Jacob loved her; and he worked 14 years to have her become his wife.  Moses told the children of Israel that God’s love for them was not based upon them, but was based upon a promise that He made to Abraham.  God, who loved the world, gave His Son to be a propitiation for our sins, not because of us, but because of His promise to Abraham.  If we are going to display His love, then we must follow His example.  John said, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another” (1 John 4:10-11).  God’s love is always about fulfilling His promises.

Sing:  I love Him!  I love Him!  Because He first loved me, He purchased my salvation, on Calvary.

Thought For Today:  God’s love is always about fulfilling His promises.

  1. "If you love me, keep my commandments," and "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another;" I will strive to learn HOW Jesus loved His disciples.
