Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. (Isaiah 40:1-5)
Today's Morsel: If you have ever read Isaiah 40:1-5, then you know that this passage which was used by Dr. Martin Luther King in his famous "I Have A dream Speech." When he quoted "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain," he was speaking a word of comfort to the people from the book of Isaiah. God's message to His people is one of comfort and blessing. God never gives up on us, no matter how bad the things are that we've done or may be going through. The punishment will end, the hardship will cease, and God will restore us to a loving relationship with Himself. John said, "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:6-7). Therefore, if we are going to have a relationship with God, we have to clear out things in our life that aren't like Him. Sin, pride, addictions, hypocrisy, greed, and such things will have to go because they will block our relationship with God. But when these things are dealt with, then and only then will we become free to become the people God wants us to be and maintain that relationship.
Sing: Create in me a clean heart, O' God, and renew a right spirit within me. Create in me a clean heart, O' God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence O' God; take not your Holy Spirit from me, restore unto me, the joy of Thy salvation, and renew a right spirit within me.
