2011 July 30 - Morning Manna

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: (Ephesians 4:21)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

(2 Timothy 2:15)

Today's Morsel: In many places of the world, school will soon start again. Many will be purchasing school supplies in hopes of being ready for the starting day. Many will be happy, because this will be their last year and they will obtain their diploma of completion. We should see the church as a school. A place where we can learn and grow. Solomon said that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, while Paul informs us that if we've been taught by Jesus then we should know where the truth lies, in Jesus. He told Timothy to study to show himself approved of God. He further stated, "But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge" (1 Corinthians 8:6-7). Why doesn't everyone know that Jesus is God? Why doesn't everyone believe this truth? How much of your study do you spend seeking and looking for truth? Jesus said, "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins" (John 8:24). Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had an AA, was "Apostolic Apostle"; or a BA, "Born Again"; or a MA, "Master of the Book of Acts"; or a PHD, a "Pentecostal Holiness Disciple"; or a DD, a "Doctor in the Lord's Doctrine". If we all sought these degrees, I think our world would be in a better position than it is, our families would be more in tune to each other, our schools would be run by godly instructors, and our government would be led and ruled in the fear of God. "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" King Solomon said (Proverbs 14:34).

Sing: Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus, daily let me go; higher, higher in the school of wisdom, more of grace to know.

Refrain: O deeper yet, I pray, and higher every day, and wiser, blessed Lord, In Thy precious, holy Word.

About Morning Manna

And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat (Exodus 16:10-15).

“Morning Manna” is a short daily devotion which began in 2002, with just a short note of encouragement to a friend who was facing difficulties at the time. Through their response, I was encouraged to begin a daily devotion via email and send it to people who asked to be put on the distribution list. It is now reaching around the globe. Its birth came about during Morning Prayer. The Lord revealed to me that I should forward my friend a word of encouragement, since it is through patience and comfort of the scripture that we find hope. Thus, I forwarded him the words the Lord had given to me for him, and he forwarded it on to someone else who was having difficulties in their life as well, and thus the original list began.

The goal of “Morning Manna” is to provide people with a quick, thought provoking Word from the Lord, as well as provide encouragement from His Word that can help them through the day and during unexpected trails and circumstances in their daily lives.

Several years ago, Jesus moved on my heart to start writing daily devotions; thus began “Morning Manna”. Today, many people are receiving these daily devotions and many of these people are forwarding it on to their family and friends. It is my hope to encourage even more through posting the devotions to this blog-page.

I pray that you, too, will enjoy reading the manna from this site.
