Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 October 21

The Lord of The Sabbath

“And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” (Mark 2:27-28)

Today’s Morsel: The Sabbath day was to be a day of rest. Man wasn’t supposed to work. It was to be a day of rest. But man changed it and now we see that many are distressed, stressed, oppressed, hopeless, and with low self-esteem. They are always tired and worn. Jesus told His disciples to come apart and rest awhile. Jesus said that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. The rest was made for man, not man for the rest. Jesus Christ is Lord of the Sabbath. That means that our rest is found in Him. It’s not a day that we rest, it is Who we find our rest in. Paul informed the church at Colossi, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17) He said that the Sabbath was a shadow of things to come. What was this shadow? The sabbath was a fore shadow of the rest we find in the Holy Ghost. “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.” (Isaiah 28:11-12) There is no rest without the Holy Ghost in your life. We don’t find rest in the day; we find rest in the One who made the day. Jesus Christ!

Sing: Peace, peace, wonderful peace coming down from the father above. Sweep over my spirit, forever I pray; in fathomless billows of love.

Thought For Today: “And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?” (Luke 14:3)
