Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 27 June 2023

The Right Clothing

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)

Today’s Morsel: My wife always tells me that the Norwegians have a saying that there is no bad weather, just bad clothing. I saw a young lady one day during the winter here in Wisconsin enter the store and she said that it was so cold out. As I observed her attire, her jeans were almost nothing but rags, and she didn’t have on a coat. I wasn’t critical of her as I know that that is the style for many young folks today.  But somewhere wisdom and understanding must come into play when you are freezing and cold. Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the tricks and schemes of the devil. Peter tells us to be clothed with humility. We are told “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:14). And as priest of God, we are told to be clothed with righteousness and salvation. There are garments for war, and there are garments for peace. But of all the garments that we are commanded to wear, we are admonished by Paul “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:14) Do you have on the right clothing for the spiritual season you are in?

Sing: Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift-up your voice to God; pray in the Spirit and with understanding, oh magnify the Lord.
