Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 20 June 2023

The Most Important Thing

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” (1 Timothy 2:1-10)

Today’s Morsel: When we become Christians, there must also be a change in our lifestyle. Throughout the New Testament writings, you will notice that the letters call for a change in mind, change in actions and conduct, and a change in our way of living.  Paul informed Timothy of what he saw was the most important thing in the church, which was prayer: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”  And then he says: “I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works” Men and women must pray always for all men and women, and those who are in authority. But then Paul shifts the focus to another important thing and that is of modesty in apparel. In the church, we must all be modest in our dress and appearance. We must not portray the world and its ways. Anything fake must be done away with. Fake nails, fake hair, fake attitudes, fake faces, fake love, and anything else that is fake must be done away with. You must be the real deal.  And then he says that women must be with shamefacedness and sobriety.  This is a great compliment to all women. What Paul is saying here is this, that women ought the have great honor and respect for themselves, along with self-control and a sound mind. Ladies, please listen to him. You are a daughter who represents the Most High God. Respect and honor for yourself is so important in the world in which we live. And since Paul is speaking to the church, I will say that men ought to have the same thing in their life. I am a believer that what is good for the gander is also good for the goose.  It is time for the church to reread the Word and get back to the basics of the most important things.  Holiness.

Sing: To be like Jesus! To be like Jesus! On earth I long to be like Him. All through life’s journey, from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.
