Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 27 November 2019

Wisdom is Better Than Strength

This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
(Ecclesiastes 9:13-18)

Today’s Morsel:  There are two books in the Bible I feel everyone needs to be aware of and apply what is written in them to their hearts. They are the book of Proverbs and the book of Ecclesiastes.  I know that there are those who may feel that other books are more important, like the book of Acts and the book of John, but to me, having the knowledge of the gospel (the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ), who Jesus was, His plan of salvation, yet you don’t have the wisdom of what it means and how to use it and apply it to yourself and others can be useless to you and others as well.  Solomon says that wisdom is better than strength.  Why be strong physically and weak spiritual and mentally?  Why be strong physically, and weak morally, ethically, honorably, decently, honestly, and justly?  You don’t need strength to defeat your enemy, you need wisdom.  Wisdom is better than weapons of war.

Sing: Deeper, deeper, in the love of Jesus daily let me go.  Higher, higher in the school of wisdom, more of grace to know.
O’ deeper yet I pray, and higher every day; and wiser, blessed Lord in Thy precious holy word.

Thought For Today: Wisdom is better than strength.
