Hindrances to Faith

“And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
(Matthew 13:54-58)

Today’s Morsel: I have come to realize that a lack of faith is due to a lack of faith. Some folks are doing nothing to increase their faith. Paul tells us that faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Peter told the church to add to their faith and that they would never fall (2 Peter 1:5-11). Jesus did many miracles right before the eye of the people, and yet many of them still failed to believe that He was God manifested in flesh. They questioned his identity, as to whom He said that He was, thus hindering His ability to meet their needs. Continuously, throughout scripture, we see this taking place. Many just saw Jesus just as another man, not as their Messiah. Martha saw Jesus as the Son of God, but she did not believe that He had the power to bring someone back from the dead. Her words said one thing, but her faith said another. She told Jesus: “But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.” (John 11:22-27) She knew that He was the Messiah, the Son of God, and yet she could not bring her faith in line to believe that He could raise Lazarus from the dead.  I have come to realize that fear, pain, loss of life, not knowing what lies ahead, impatience, and a lack of self-confidence can hinder one’s faith. If you want to see the miraculous, then you must believe that God can and that God will. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Sing: Faith can move mountains, mountains of fear and of doubt, faith can move mountains, so why don’t you try your faith out.
