Envy
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the
bones.”
(Proverbs 14:30)
Today’s Morsel: What is envy
and where does it come from? Why is it called the green-eyed
monster? The quote is taken from Shakespear. Jealousy will attack
you and destroy you. Solomon calls for us to keep envy at bay because it
will eat away at us like canker or cancer. No one can stand before
envy. Many people's lives have been destroyed because of envy.
James informs us, “But if ye have bitter envying and
strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom
descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where
envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:14-16) Envy doesn’t come from God, so we can assume that it is from
Satan. To keep your heart sound, you must hide the word of God in it, or
else Satan will plant a seed of envy and jealousy right in it and destroy
you. To defeat envy you must prefer others better than yourself, and
rejoice with those who do better than you. We never want to let envy take
root in our lives.
Sing: You’re my brother you’re my sister, so
take me by the hand, together we will work until He comes. There’s no foe
that can defeat us, when we're walking side by side, as long as there is love,
we can stand.
Thought For Today: Envy slays
silly people.
