Belief
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried,
saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth
on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living
water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should
receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet
glorified.)”
(John 7:37-39)
Today’s Morsel: In today’s passage, Jesus talked about believing and receiving the
Holy Ghost. Notice
that He tells us that we must believe on Him as the scripture
says. Not what someone else says. Some people think that
Paul's writing to the church in Rome is only saying that all you must do
is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart and you will be saved. That is not what Paul is saying in Romans
10:8-17. Paul is writing to a church that is already saved. He is
informing this church that if Israel would confess Jesus with their mouth, and
believe on Him in their heart, they could also be saved. Salvation is
more than just confessing and believing. It’s following scripture. As
Jesus said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned.”
(Mark 16:16) If you will read the entire chapter of
Romans 10, you will see that Paul is referring to the Jews, and not to the church,
as many of them rejected Jesus. If we are going to be saved, then we must
obey the gospel.
Sing: Give me that old-time religion.
Give me that old-time religion. Give me that old-time religion, it’s good
enough for me.
Thought For Today: “For I am not
ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans
1:16)
