Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 14 November 2020

Faith in the Storm

“And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:35-41)

Today’s Morsel:  One of the things about life is we will sometimes have to go through a storm.  When I lived in Okinawa, Japan, from 1 June - 30 November, we lived in what was known as Typhoon Season.  A typhoon could appear at any time and so we always had to be ready.  It is much like Hurricane Season in America.  These storms will test your faith, especially when you see the devastation that they can cause.  You want to always have your relationship with Jesus intact.  When Jesus put His disciples in the boat and they were heading to the other side, they too encountered a storm.  They thought they were going to drown.  After Jesus rebuked the wind and calmed the seas, He asked His disciples where their faith was?  Didn't they bring it with them?  What happened to it?  Shouldn't the men who had seen all the miracles that Jesus had done not have faith?  Do you carry your faith with you everywhere you go?  If not, what did you do with it ? Jesus is your faith you know.

Sing: Faith can move mountains, mountains of fear and of doubt.  Faith can move mountains, so why don’t you try your faith out.

Thought For Today:  Let faith arise and the storm will cease (Parker)
