This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:16-21)
Today's Morsel: When we look at the works of the flesh that Paul spoke of, we see that there are 17 things Paul mentioned that will kill you spiritually and cause you to miss heaven. Some of them may not seem as major as others, but they are like a serpent upon a rock. They will bite and sting like an adder. Even though God will forgive us of all of these things, if we allow them to hang around our lives, they will eventually kill us. The works of the flesh are enmity against God. Paul said that these things will keep you out of heaven. These things will make the oil in the apothecary send forth a stink. These things will make rottenness in your bones. These things will cause you to be of none effect for the kingdom of God. These things will cause you to struggle in your faith. These things will snuff out your lamp. These things, James said, are devilish, sensual, and every evil work. These things, Paul said, make you an enemy of God and they will cause you to miss the mark of the prize. Don't fool around with the "Deadly Seventeen." But be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
Sing: What can wash away my sins, nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again, nothing but the Blood of Jesus. O' precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow, no other fount' I know, nothing but the Blood of Jesus!
