"Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec" (Hebrews 6:17-20).
Today's Morsel: The size of your vessel will determine the size of anchor you will need to stabilize your ship. Anchors are rated by their holding power, which is the anchor's ability to hold a given weight. You may not need a heavy anchor on a calm day, but when the storm hits, the strength and velocity of the storm will determine the anchor you need. Do you ever feel like you are in a storm and things are blowing and moving a little bit too fast for you and you want to slow it down? When you are battling the storms of life, you hope something or someone will slow things down. Paul said that we have an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil. He said that the foundation of God stands sure. When you connect to the Ark of the Covenant, you are connecting to Jesus for He is the one who sits on the mercy seat. It is Jesus that shows compassion and mercy towards us and delivers us from the storm. The psalmist said "This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me" (Psalms 119:50). There is an anchor of hope in the Word of God. We just need to connect with it. To realize the strength of the anchor you’ve chosen, you’ve got to endure the storm. So let me encourage you today, don't wait for the storm to come, but prepare yourself now by attaching yourself to the right anchor. It can be the difference between life and death.
Sing: I've anchored in Jesus, the storms of life I'll brave, I've anchored in Jesus, I fear no wind or wave, I've anchored in Jesus, for He hath power to save, I've anchored to the Rock of Ages.
