All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage” (Deuteronomy 8:1-2& 11-14)
Today’s Morsel: The disease of Alzheimer’s affects approximately 5 million people in the U.S. Misplacing car keys, not remembering familiar names, or not recognizing familiar face are just a small portion of this disease. Alzheimer's disease gradually destroys a person's memory and ability to learn and carry out daily activities such as talking, eating, and going to the bathroom. As the disease progresses, individuals may also experience changes in personality and behavior. Unfortunately, there are no cures for Alzheimer's disease at the present time and there is no way to predict how fast someone will progress through the stages of the disease. Many people in the church today seem to be suffering from what I would like to call Spiritual Alzheimer’s. They have forgotten what the Lord has done for them, what His Word says, and how to be a Christian. They have become like the children of Israel, they have eaten, become full, and have forgotten God. They have become intoxicated with Babylon, this world. Yes, we may go to church, but many have forgotten God in our daily living. Many seem to be suffering from spiritual Alzheimer, they have forgotten that Jesus made them free and they are still living in bondage to this world. Moses told the children of Israel whatever you do, do not forget God. The Lord told the church of Ephesus, “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent” (Revelation 2:4-5). Have you forgotten what the Lord has done for you? The good news is that while there is no cure for the disease of Alzheimer’s, there is a cure for Spiritual Alzheimer's (forgetfulness) and that is repentance.
Sing: Jesus I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me. Jesus I’ll never forget how you set me free. And Jesus I’ll never forget, how You brought me out. Jesus I’ll never forget no never!
