Sanctify Yourself
“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 20:7)
Today’s Morsel: Throughout scriptures, we see that God calls for His people to sanctify themselves. Josuah told the people just prior to entering the Promised Land, “And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” (Joshua 3:5) Jesus prayed that we would be sanctified by the truth, the Word of God (John 17:17). Paul admonish the church at Ephesus, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:25-27). What does it mean to sanctify oneself? It means to consecrate yourself and be holy because God is holy. It emphasizes the importance of setting ourselves apart and living according to God’s Word. It also highlights the need for an internal cleansing and separation from worldly practices and aligning ourselves with God and His character. Let’s start now to do what God calls for us to do by sanctifying ourselves, or we will not be able to cross over into the Promise. “And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” (Isaiah 35:8)
Sing: Holiness, holiness, is what I long for, holiness is what I need; Holiness, holiness, is what You want from me. So, take my heart and mold it, take my mind and transform it, take my will and conform it, to Yours, to Yours, oh Lord.
Thought For Today: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” (1 Peter 3:15-16)
