Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 9 September 2020

Choice Not Chance

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.(Deuteronomy 30:19-20)

Today’s Morsel:  Every day, life affords us many choices and chances.  We go to the restaurant and they hand us a menu and tell us to choose what we would like to eat.  We get advertisements in the mail for clothing, cars, phone, internet providers, appliances, furniture, sporting equipment, and the list goes on and on.  We see billboards offering us a chance to win millions by playing the Lottery, slot machines, or bingo.  We are inundated with choices and chances.  And if one does not have discretion and wisdom, they can so easily find themselves filled with worry and indebtedness.  Jesus said that a man’s life does not consist in the things which he possesses.  Life is more about choice than chance as it is the only thing that determines human destiny.  “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” Joshua said (Joshua 24:15).  Moses admonished the children of Israel to choose life that they might live.  Have you chosen life?  If you have, then stop taking chances with your life. Don’t let others steal your crown.

Sing:  I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus.  I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.

Thought For Today:  Choice, not chance, determines human destiny.
