Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 21 March 2020

How God Sees Us

And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.(1 Samuel 16:6-7)

Today’s Morsel: I often wonder how many businesses and churches have failed because someone was chosen to a position or to leadership based on their skin color, sex, or national origin instead of their qualifications. James says, “If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.(James 2:8-9)  We may have respect of persons before we are born again, but once we are born again, Paul says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.(Galatians 3:28)   When God sent the Prophet Samuel to anoint David to be king of Israel, Samuel was looking for someone to replace King Saul.  He was probably looking for someone like Saul who stood head and shoulders above the rest like Saul.  But when God rejected all of David’s brothers, God told him, the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.  Man can only see what is without, but God sees what is within.  He looks at our hearts.  God knows our qualifications and abilities.  In 1987, Dr Ben Carson was called on to separate two babies from Ulm, Germany, named Patrick and Benjamin Binder, and he and his team were successful.  I’m sure many were skeptical of him because of the color of his skin. But what many failed to realize was that Ben knew God and God knew Ben.  God knew Ben’s qualifications and he knows yours, too.  When God measures a man, He puts the tape around his heart, not his head.

Sing:  He knew me, yet He loved me, He whose glory makes the heavens shine.  I’m so unworthy, of such mercy, yet when He was on the cross, I was on His mind.

Thought For Today:  When God measures a man, He puts the tape around his heart, not his head.
