2015 September 5 - Morning Manna

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again. (Proverbs 23:26-35)

Today's Morsel: There have been more people destroyed because of alcohol then we can number. Homes have been destroyed.  Peoples' lives, hopes, and dreams have been lost because of alcohol.  The world will tell you that it's okay to drink.  And that is what the devil wants, for you to indulge in his cesspool of filthiness.  Alcohol prevents you from thinking straight (Proverbs 31:5).  It causes you to make wrong decisions (Proverbs 23:33).  It will causes you to lose your inheritance by keeping you out of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).  And it will cause you to think that you are something when you are not (Proverbs 23:35).  Once the fruit of the vine is turned fermented, it has the power to impair your vision and your thinking.  And the more of it you drink, the more impaired you become.   Paul admonishes us, "Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:17-18).  If you are going to be drunk, Paul said, then be drunk in the Spirit.  The same way they were accused of being drunk on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:13-21). If you are drunk on the Holy Ghost, you don't have to worry about waking up with a hangover, nor do you have to worry about making wrong decisions because you will be led by the Spirit.  And Jesus will never lead you astray.

Sing:  Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up Lord, come and quench this thirsting of my soul; bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more, here's my cup, fill it up and make me whole.

Thought for Today: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1).
