"And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son." (Matthew 2:12-15)
Today's Morsel: Immigration reform is a term used in political discussion regarding changes to the current immigration policy of a country. In its strict definition, "reform" means to change into an improved form or condition, by amending or removing faults or abuses. In the political sense, "immigration reform" may include promoted, expanded, or open immigration, as well as reduced or eliminated immigration. " Immigration reform" in the United States of America is widely used to describe proposals to increase legal immigration while decreasing illegal immigration (wikipedia.org).
Joseph, Mary, and Jesus; by all accounts; would have been classified as illegal immigrants. But they knew that the country that God had sent them in to was only for a short stay. Because all the prophecies about Jesus had to be fulfilled, the Lord sent them into Egypt so that it would be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." Egypt represents the world. When the Bible speaks of the world, it is saying, that we, as the children of God, should not partake in any of the evils and wrongs in the world that we see others do. We are in the world, but not of the world. When Paul wrote, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty" (2 Corinthians 6:14-18), he said, God called for his sons and daughters to come out of the world and that he would be a father unto us. You are not to always remain in Egypt (the ways of the world). The world is only your home for a short stay, so don't try to get a permanent visa for it. We are seeking for a better country wherein dwells righteousness. Joseph, Mary, and Jesus were only to stay in Egypt until God sent for them. The same way God had told Abraham that he would send someone to bring his seed out of captivity in Egypt and into the promised land. So today, Jesus is come to bring you out of the world and back into His marvelous light and land of promise.
Sing: He said, come unto to me; and I will give you rest; take my yoke upon you, hear Me and be blessed; I am meek and lowly, come and trust My might; come, my yoke is easy, and My burden light.
