Did You Understand the Message?
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
Today’s Morsel: Do you have a hard time understanding the messages that your pastor preaches? Do you ever go to him after service and ask him to explain it to you so that you can get an understanding? The disciples of Jesus didn’t have a problem with asking Him. Scripture says, “And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.” (Mark 4:10) When they were alone with Jesus, they were not afraid to ask him to expound His teachings. You have not because you ask not, Jesus said. Solomon said, “For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.” (Ecclesiastes 7:12) Do you remember that old saying, “I know that you think that you understood what I said, but I am not sure that you understood what I meant?” For example, there are churches that are baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, according to Matthew 28:19. They say that they understand what Jesus said, but they fail to understand what He meant. The apostles who Jesus was speaking to, as far as we can tell, understood what He said and what He meant. And so, we see none of them baptizing anyone other than in the name of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus told them to baptize in the “name’ of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. The disciples knew what name He was referring to. His name. The name of Jesus Christ. As Peter would say, “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:37-38) The disciples didn’t violate scripture; they got the message and follow what they were told. What about you? Do you understand? Have you followed what Jesus said?
Sing: There’s just one, one, one, one way to God. One, one, one, one way to God. One, one, one, one way to God, baptized in Jesus' Name!
